Charity of the Year

Our story

In 2024 Wildernesse Club’s Charity of the year is Cancer Research UK. Fiona McCusker – Women’s Captain: “As cancer now affects 1 in 2 people nearly everyone knows somebody who has dealt with the disease. My personal connection, when my brother was diagnosed, brought home to me the importance of further research in order to find ways to combat the disease in all its diverse forms. So, we hope to raise funds this year to support the efforts of Cancer Research UK.” Andy Chapman – Men’s Captain: “There can’t be any of us who have not lost friends or family to Cancer. Here in the UK cancer survival rates have dramatically improved over the last few decades but there is a long way to go. I have lost several friends in recent times and in 2021 I lost my younger brother to cancer. Cancer Research UK have a comprehensive strategy to accelerate progress towards a world free from the fear of cancer, to achieve this they need support.”
