Our story
About this event: 2019 sees The Office Abbott Run take to the streets of Polesworth and Warton for the sixth time. Since its inception in 2014, this event has raised more than £60,000 for Cancer Research – an incredible achievement! The event takes place on a 3 mile route between our two businesses, Polesworth Garage Ltd and The Office at Warton Public House. It is a family friendly event with everyone from serious runners to young children taking part. Ages to date have ranged from babies in pushchairs to a gentleman at the grand old age of 91! On the day: Registration will be held at the Polesworth Garage, after which everyone will set off for The Office! The finish line, swarmed with well-wishers, is a sight to behold, and the pride at the end of the day is overwhelming. At the pub we have raffles, auctions, market stalls, bouncy castle, and a DJ to make the most of the day. We welcome everyone of all ages and ability levels, and ensure everyone feels welcomed and appreciated. Run fast, run slow, walk, scooter or be pushed, just JOIN IN! History: The event was the idea of organiser Andrew Marven, who lost his father to cancer and wanted to do something positive. Along with Amanda Busby, now main organiser, the event got off the ground in its first year in 2014. Numbers grew in the second year, and with the target of £10,000 achieved, it felt like mission accomplished! We were considering finishing the event until a local girl called Karen Abbott convinced us to rethink. In fact, she insisted that we carried on. Karen had been diagnosed with cancer that September and sadly died the following March. In honour of Karen, The Office Fun Run became The Office Abbott Run, and has remained so ever since. Polesworth Garage Ltd, Tamworth’s biggest car dealer, are a huge supporter of the event, and cover all associated costs so that all funds raised go directly to Cancer Research UK. In 2017, Polesworth Garage held a 50th anniversary ball in memory of the founder and chairman, Bill Newbold, who had recently died from cancer. This event raised an additional £12,000 for the charity. Get involved
