Our story

Join me in my challenge of riding around the edge of the UK on a Raleigh Chopper! Whether you’d like to take on part of the route or cycle the entirety of it – I need your help. On 31 August 2016, I thought my world had come to an end – I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia. 6 weeks prior to this news, I went to my friend’s funeral, who passed away just 6 weeks after he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Once my Oncologist had calmed me down, she reassured me by saying that the advent of modern treatment ensured there was every chance that I would live a long life, passing away with the cancer, NOT dying from it. Prior to the discovery of my treatment, a patient's chances of survival were 50/50, with procedures being very intrusive. Although my tablets cause me a lot of side effects, over time, my body got more used to them – and they became less intrusive to my life. The life-saving treatment I received has given me the drive to want to raise as much money as I can to find a cure for all cancers. Raising money for Cancer Research UK is the smallest thing I can do to repay what has been given to me with my treatment. I'm 9 years in now and every day is a blessing.
