Our story
I am 46 years of age and have a daughter and a 19-month-old grandson who I adore. I am a serving police officer and enjoy keeping myself fit and healthy. On December 10th, 2020 I was told the devastating news that I had stage 4 goblet cell cancer. Unfortunately, this is a very rare form of cancer and as it stands there is no cure so I have been put onto palliative care. I was told I would have 6 months of chemotherapy and then a possible chance of having HIPEC surgery. Since then I’ve been recently told after my CT scan that the cancer has spread to my liver and lungs meaning the surgery is no longer an option. I’m now on a new chemotherapy, so you never know this chemo may work wonders for me and surgery may become an option in the future. We can live and hope. I wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK due to my rare form of cancer. I saw the challenge run 56 miles in February and decided this was a great way to raise money and was approached by others who wanted to run this with me. I set up my own Facebook group ‘Goblet cell girl and supporters’ so we could all share our progress throughout the month. More and more people joined from all over the world and the UK. We even had hoodies and t-shirts made. At the end of February, we had raised an incredible £13,700! My Facebook group has 367 members, every month we still set challenges whether it’s done by walking, running, cycling, swimming or however they choose to do it. It’s good fun and very heart-warming knowing these people are right behind me supporting me all the way. Until recently I was running everyday between 3-10 miles, but I became really ill to the point I thought this was it. I was so ill I couldn’t walk or eat so my weight dropped dramatically, and all my muscle has wasted away. I’m back on my feet now but it’s a slow recovery to get back to where I was. I can’t run at the moment as I’m still a little weak and due to the side effects of the new chemo. But every day I fight this and try my damn hardest to get back on track. I walk as much as I can and have also joined a gym to get my muscle usage back. I’m a very strong and determined person so I live for the day and keep myself busy doing things I enjoy! Follow me on my Instagram account @gobletcellgirl and Facebook ‘Goblet cell girl and supporters’ Your donations will spur me and my wonderful supporters on during our monthly challenges; the more we can raise together the more lives we can help Cancer Research UK save!
