Our story
My Story, Thank you for visiting my Fundraising Page. The money I raise will help fund life-saving research and bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. I was diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer aged 24 in November 2022 whilst working as an F2 Doctor in Birmingham, I only experienced symptoms for 2 weeks prior to my diagnosis. My diagnosis and prognosis have been a complete shock to me, my family and my friends. I continue to appreciate all the support and treatment that I have received from the staff at the Cancer Centre, the Oncology Treatment Suite, the Liver team and the Colorectal Cancer Services team at the Q.E. Hospital in Birmingham. I appreciate how important up-to-date research is, as a patient and Doctor, in helping increase treatment options for people like me who are currently undergoing chemotherapy. I have chosen Cancer Research UK as the charity I would like to raise money for because the research they fund is crucial in the search for new treatment options, early diagnosis and hopefully cures for all cancers. A huge number of fundraising events have been organised since this fundraising page was started in February 2023. Some events now run annually, long may they continue! My family, friends and local community continue to be amazing in terms of raising money for CRUK and showing such valuable support for me and my family. Keynsham Hockey Club started the fundraising events off with a quiz in March 2023, quickly followed by a coffee morning at Keynsham Cricket Club. A school friend completed LEJOG in 10 days in May 2023 and raised a huge amount for CRUK. My brother Joe competed in the Bath Half Marathon, my sister Freya took part in the Bowood Sprint Triathlon and my girlfriend Abbie took part in a Super Sprint Triathlon alongside her brother and Dad. There are too many other events to mention, check out this page to see them all! The loudest event so far has been 'Splash for Cash' a water aerobics event run at Droitwich Spa Lido, organised by Jane, a close member of my family. However, the Race Night at Keynsham Rugby Club was very close in terms of noise output! The number of activities and events on my page continues to grow...I'm sure that you will find something to join in with...or you can just make a donation! Thank you for reading my story, Dan
