Our story

Background – Why is CEMEX UK supporting Cancer Research UK? In March 2022, CEMEX UK conducted a process to identify a charity of the year. Over 40 nominations were received followed by a poll to determine the charity of the year. Through the voting process, Cancer Research UK received the largest number of votes and this positioned it as the selected 2022/23 Employee-selected Charity of the year. From July 2022 until July 2023, CEMEX UK will be driving business wide efforts to fundraise for Cancer Research UK. With the selected charity of the year, the business can consolidate its fundraising efforts and mobilise all employees around a single charitable cause. It is evident that CEMEX has a number of generous employees and valued partners so we want to work with them in creating lasting positive experiences for our stakeholders. About Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Cancer Research UK is a registered charity in England and Wales (1089464). CRUK’s strategy is about beating cancer to ensure greater survival for cancer patients. In the 1970s just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today 2 in 4 survive. CRUK’s ambition is to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034. Cancer is one of the world’s greatest health challenges. In the UK, 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime, along with millions more around the world, causing huge amounts of suffering and cutting many lives short. Cancer Research UK exists to beat cancer. But the disease is so complex that it is unlikely there will ever be a single cure. ‘Beating’ cancer involves discovering how and why it develops and evolves, then using that knowledge to find ways to prevent people developing it, detect it earlier when they do and develop new cutting-edge treatments. It also means finding ways to minimise the impact cancer has on those who live with it by discovering kinder, less disruptive treatments.
