Hello all, After completing socially distanced walks in lockdown as a way of staying sane and an attempt at fitness, myself and Stephen joked one day that we should push ourselves to walk over 40km.Our team name "What's that in miles?" has become a bit of a running joke as we did not realise that 41km was equal to a marathon, 26 miles. If you know us, once we get an idea in our heads we tend to roll with it. So then we thought why not do it to benefit others, this would be the furthest we ever have and we made a pact that we would do it it will be tough and a personal challenge for us all but nothing compared to what many go through when suffering from this illness. So here we go... We are going to be walking from Welwyn Garden City to the Cancer Research HQ in London on the 23rd of June 2021 to raise money for Cancer Research UK. We are hoping for a time of under 10 hours and will be setting off in the early hours and trekking all day (and night if need be), carrying all of the supplies we may need for the journey all whilst wearing our bright pink T-shirts in support. There are many reasons why we are doing this some harder to talk about than others but cancer has effected all of our lives over the years in some way. We have lost some incredible people to this illness and know many who are still fighting. We also know that so many of you reading this have also had your lives touched by this disease and we want to do our bit to help fight it. Just to break it down; - £40 could to pay for a patients cancer biopsy - £341 could fund a trial of an improved radiotherapy technique for prostate cancer for 1 day - £1,020 could fund a cancer nurse for a whole week! We are going to be writing on our T-shirts the names of a loved one or a special message for any donation that you are willing to give (to do this you can just message one of us). Also if you are willing to donate we are also prepared to look as silly as possible to raise more money and are open to suggestions! So here is our pledge - we want to raise as much as we possibly can, to be able to help as many people as we can. Thank you all for reading this and any donations at all will be greatly appreciated.
