Story
This year I’ve decided to do race for life with the support of a close friend, Chloe. As this is for a great cause and so many people have been affected by someone close with cancer, a loved one, family or friend. We wanted to play a part in helping to raise what we can towards this charity. Myself and my family have been closely affected with my mum being first diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, in mid 2016. Mum received chemotherapy treatment to reduce the size of her tumour to undergo surgeries to remove them. This all went well and we were confident when we were given the news the tumours had been removed successfully. With mum being in remission, we were hopeful for mum to recover fully after her major surgeries and she could start enjoying life again, with having regular follow up appointments. After 18 months, we received news mums cancer had come back but this time into her lungs, this time terminal. This wasn’t the news we had hoped for, after living with the confidence she was recovering well and starting to live a life again. Throughout the six years, the cancer was becoming more aggressive, mum underwent many chemotherapy treatments, radiotherapy and other surgeries. Nothing seemed to be working and with her cancer spreading further into her bones and head. Mums body was starting to fail her and she sadly lost her battle on the 18th February 2022. Mum consistently tried to stay positive as much as she could and never giving up. Her family meant the world to her and we made her smile every single day. For this I will always be extremely proud of her, mum is such an inspiration with how she fought so much to beat this battle. I really want to show my appreciation by participating and doing my bit to help this charity as much as I can.
