Story

At the end of August last year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. To say it was a shock and a bit daunting, would be an understatement. I decided to have a mastectomy to ensure the cancer was removed. The amazing team at Guys and St Thomas' Hospital, took on a five hour surgery, where they removed tissue from my thigh and replaced it where my breast tissue would have been. I have since been having chemotherapy treatment to ensure it doesn't come back and will have to take additional drugs for the next ten years, to keep the cancer at bay. Although it's been a heck of a year, my 'story' isn't really anything special. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. And it doesn't just affect the patient - it's hard on everyone involved. Tim, Ollie and Martha have been wonderfully supportive throughout this last year and I know it's not been easy on them. We've decided, as a family to try and do this Race For Life together. I may be doing more of a fast walk, if my thigh hasn't healed by then, but we'll do it together! Please could you donate to help everyone at Cancer Research continue to do the amazing things they're doing (Tim didn't tell me to write that, honest!), which will hopefully mean that our children and grandchildren won't be affected as much as we have.
