The Twins This time last year my son, James, helped me support a dear friend Joanne Richards when she ran Race for Life; in Maidstone and he thought cancer was all about having fun in a race, until we had to explain differently some months later. Little did we know within the next 6 months our lives would change so much because of cancer. Our Nana, Nanny, Mum and Pauline was living life ‘normally’, then within exactly one month she would be diagnosed with 3 cancers and she would leave us on 29th December 2016. The pain doesn’t go away and in fact just gets harder, so when the going gets tough!! (Yes we are 80’s girls, well the first set of twins are anyway!!) we have to be positive. So who are the Twins? Well there is me, my non identical twin sister Clare Barlow and then there are Clare’s identical twin daughters Amy Barlow and Emma Barlow. The ‘Brannigan Twins’ were always a united front but we have double double trouble now in both sets of Twins as a Team! So if you would like to support or come and see two younger twins being covered in mud, pushed over and generally getting their butts whipped by Mummy and Auntie Sarah - then join us on 9th July 2017 at Pretty Muddy in Maidstone for a 1.30 pm race start. (Amy and Emma at this point Nanny would have said – “don’t you dare let them do that girls – take the challenge!!) Obviously, you won’t get anywhere …… but you can try! The positives out of this, you have to find some – the Twins are united and determined, (as ever, some say stubborn but not us!), we are raising money for a good cause and maybe one day research will get far enough to beat cancer. For us we are 'doing' something, although only small but this brings us comfort. If you want to donate that’s great but please don’t feel obliged – that goes against our Nana/Mum’s views on charities, only donate if YOU BELIEVE in it.
