Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. This year it will be 10 years since I completed my first Race for Life with my daughter, Victoria, and after a few years of non-participation for one reason or another, I decided this year is going to be different. So I have registered to take part in the Wakefield event on 15th June 2019. Not only me.....but I will have more of my family involved this time, as men are now allowed to participate too. I will be supported by Brian, Victoria, Matthew, Thomas, John, Brooke, Kimberley and my 2 year old grandson, Henry. Three generations of my family striding out, side by side. It makes me feel so proud to have their support ....and who knows.....maybe one of them will come up with a better team name!! Nothing can describe the emotion and togetherness felt at these events and my own personal experience of having lost my dad to prostate cancer in 2004 makes this a charity close to my heart. The nurses were wonderful in caring for my dad and supporting my mum through the difficult times. I am sure that most of us will know someone affected by this cruel disease, whether a family member, relative, friend or work colleague - we are all affected in some way by personal experience, or stories we read, and every penny raised by your donation will go towards the worthwhile research to find a cure and help so many. It's not about how fast you complete the "race", or how much pink you wear on the day....just to take the course at a sensible pace and to be able to chat with others along the way, giving encouragement when needed and hearing the amazing and heart-warming stories from survivors too is incredible and emotional.
