Story
The inspiration for this race is my cousin Hazel - absolute legend, will do anything for anybody, always has a smile on her face and is genuinely one-in-a-million. After finding out she had cancer in April 2023, she went through 6 months of intensive chemo, 2 lots of surgery and 15 rounds of radiotherapy. All whilst bringing up two very young girls. In September 2024, she got the all-clear but sadly after feeling unwell and having more tests in March, she found out this month that the cancer is back and it's terminal. She's 39, has a husband a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old. It's heartbreaking. Karen an amazing and much-loved member of staff at Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy, has also been given a similar diagnosis - stage 4 breast cancer which is treatable but incurable. There are many other personal stories close to the hearts of staff at Bilsthorpe linked to this horrible disease. Doing this race won't change the situation for Hazel or Karen but it's one small way that as school team we are trying to help. Any donations are greatly appreciated. Fliss x
