Story
My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer which spread to his liver in 2014 . He was told that long term survival wasn’t an option . My dad started chemotherapy and was told that due to a certain gene pattern he was entitled to receive an innovative treatment called Cetuximab that Cancer Research UK had trialled and got funding for on the Cancer drug fund . The chemotherapy combination reduced his tumours enough for an operation to be possible. After 24 sessions of chemotherapy and two major surgeries, he received the good news of a clear scan in May 2016 . Unfortunately the cancer came back in his liver so he had to have another surgery in October 2016 . After he reseaved 2 clear scans which meant the cancer had gone . My dad went on to doing the London marathon with me , my mum , my sister and my brother cheering him on . I’m doing the race for life so that Cancer research UK can continue to support people with cancer and help save their lives just like they saved my dads .
