Our friendship goes back a long way - it's more than 20 years since we met whilst working together in Stratford. One of our mutual friends from way back then has just begun a challenging journey fighting Breast Cancer, and she has inspired us to take part in Race for Life this year. Breast cancer research in the U.K. has lost over 230,000 lab hours due to Covid-19, but it's critical to help those like Rosie who are currently undergoing treatment, and all those who will need treatment in future. The treatment Rosie is currently undergoing has been made possible thanks to research. Her BRCA2 gene will be treated with a PARB inhibitor thanks to research and her Stage 3 diagnosis puts her in a higher risk of secondary breast cancer in the lungs, liver, brain, bones and skin. It is only through secondary cancer research that she can hope to live as healthy a life as possible for as long as possible. Every 45 minutes one person dies of breast cancer in the U.K. It’s a frightening statistic that has become her daily fight. Race for Life is a 5K/10K run - this year run as a virtual event rather than mass participation. We will be running our 10K together on Saturday 24th April, but we are also pledging to cover the equivalent of 10K a day between us over the next month (a total of 300km). 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
