Story
This year, my gorgeous family including myself, auntie Sue, cousin Issie, step-mum Jules, step-sister Emily and best friend Tia have decided to put ourselves forward to run a pretty muddy Race for Life in Maidstone to show our love and admiration for everyone fighting caner or friends/relatives who are going through the grief of a loved one with this illness. Shortly before my 5th Birthday, my mum Nic, passed away after battling breast cancer for 3 years. She was just 31 years old and i have grown up without her by my side. When my Auntie Sue was also diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33, we discovered our family suffers from a BRCA 1 genetic mutation, passed down through my grandad's side of the family, increasing the risk of breast, ovarian and prostate cancer in relatives who are affected. Unrelated to the BRCA mutation, my gran and great-grandma have also had breast cancer. My step-mum, Jules, has lost both her parents to other variants, and now all our family are sick to the back teeth of cancer!! We believe, as a team, we can build upon the awareness of cancer and help to develop the strength and resilience to beat it! My Auntie Sue and I have previously taken part in a race for life back in 2016, and had such a fun time, and since then have been excited to go for another, with a bigger group and more enthusiasm to smash our target together! I will never stop to fight against this illness after it having such a huge impact on my life, and I will do anything to protect other from losing loves ones and having to cope with the grief that will impact their future. We would be so grateful for any donations towards this day, and for support towards us and cancer research to continue to promote life saving research against cancer.
