Story
*** We are editing our reason to raise money for prostate cancer - sadly a close friend of my dads (Grumpy Old Men U3A member) Bob Hartley died earlier this year after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. His wishes, mentioned at his funeral, were that he wanted any money raised in his honour be used for the research into prostate cancer *** In 2016 after a long time trying to convince his GP that he should have a PSA blood test as his own Father had been diagnosed just before he died of a heart attack. Allen didn't at the time think he could possibly have cancer and was very shocked to find that he did and commenced hormone treatment immediately followed by radiotherapy. His family were distraught but very supportive throughout his treatment. We are very thankful to the NHS and that he was very lucky to have minimal side effects and is walking with his wife and daughter today. Initially Allen did not want to talk about his diagnosis but luckily he did share it with his golf club members and one of his friends recognised the symptoms and also went on to have successful treatment. For all of these reasons and because he is an exceptional husband and father that we are walking with him at The Shine Cambridge to raise funds for Prostate Cancer.
