Story

Edit My story is split into many veins. My grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 47 and fought and defeated this. When my mum was 47 she was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer, sitting her 5 children down to tell us she had the dreaded c must of ripped her apart. I went with her to appointments just after to find out it had spread to her bones and liver. My world was shattered. This was my mum she was indestructible, a warrior!! She fought and beat the breast and liver cancer whilst managing the bone cancer. At her one year check up it was back and again she said no and fought it like the hero and warrior she was. Whilst fighting her own battle she sadly watched her Mum succumb to lung cancer in 2013 so not only did it take my grandmother but it took the fight from my mum. On December 25th 2014 exactly one year and a week to the day she lost her own mum, my mum lost her own battle. It was also her 51st birthday and leaving her 5 children must of been of hardest thing to do. And this is why this evil horrid disease needs to cured. It’s a wound that never heals and I hope and pray a cure is found. I now wait in fear and check myself continually worrying if it is also my fate to find a lump and not enough is done to put those left behind at ease. What many don’t know is I had a breast cancer scare in December. I was petrified I was that 1 in 4 I’ve been told is my odds. I have 4 children and I walk this walk for them in memory of their brave beautiful Nana Julie, their great grandmother Christine, my husbands Nana Jean Giles and all those beautiful souls lost to this evil disease. I took part in the 10K Liverpool shine in 2018, the London shine half marathon last year and that proved I could do anything I put my mind too so along with one of my friends Helen, and my two oldest children Dylan and Liam I'm going to train hard for a good walk time. My health hasn’t been great but I’m determined to smash my previous time. Alongside this my daughter Luna is taking part in the kids 5k Pretty Muddy! Each of my children know and understand the word Cancer and they are taking part for many areas, children’s cancers, prevention, Breast cancers.
