We're raising as much as we can to beat cancer

Story

We are doing a family 5K on Sunday 12th May, to try and raise vital funds for cancer research. Well, when I booked us in on the 5K a few months ago it seemed a brilliant idea, with plenty of time to prepare. Unfortunately not much preparation has happened….. I did go out for a few runs 3 weeks ago after hanging up my trainers a couple of years before. It was hard and although 5K sounds like a walk in the park to some of you, I struggled with 2.8K practically needing medical attendance by the end! Mark has not exercised in a year (unless you call golf exercise). Olivia is our sport fanatic, fitness family member, what with tennis, football, being 1st in school cross country, she is a machine……unfortunately she wasn't able to play tennis two days ago or participate in cross country yesterday as she has hurt her leg (not through sport but by twizerling around on an office chair)! So that leaves lovely little Darcy as our secret weapon, who was all up for it when I first mentioned the family 5K (possibly because you get a brioche at the end and hopefully a shiny thing to hang around your neck). But if a country walk is anything to go by, we are in trouble, as are our surrounding athletes! With complaining she was tired, thirsty, hungry (where is the nearest ice cream shop?) after 200 yards and then practically tantruming and refusing to go any further at 300 yards, we dragged her back to the car, cutting the walk short in search for ice cream, gin and sanity! But hey ho, one thing we have all got running through our core is competitiveness! So we may be a grumpy, panting, sweaty bunch when we crawl across the finish line but we won't let it beat us, especially as there are free brioches at the end! Oh my, I've just remembered how hilly Waddesdon is! Onwards and upwards………. 12th May..... We did it! Whoop, whoop!! So, so proud of our girls!! (and Mark) Olivia breezed it, her dodgy leg was fine and Darcy nearly had a melt down around 3K but Mark managed to get her spirits up by getting her to repeat the mantra ‘we’re going to have an ice-cream’. It worked and those little legs found a new lease of life and the other runners were saved from flaying limbs and howling noises. Mark and I both did not need the medics but it was a welcome relief to see them there. We are both creaking a bit now though. Thank you all for your fab support xx Love Team Cruse xxxx
