Story
All families will unfortunately be affected by cancer in some way, shape or form. There are many ways to try to raise money for good causes. Marathons, skydives and head shaves. However, given our ageing bodies and some (already) very bald heads in our team, we’ve decided to try to raise money by doing something we (occasionally) find enjoyable- Playing golf! Cancer Research have created this event, of playing 4 rounds of golf over 1 weekend in September. This doesn’t sound like much of a challenge on the face of it, I know. However! An average round of golf is a 7 mile walk. When you zig zag around the course as we do, it’s probably double! It’s also mentally draining, when you’re as bad at golf as I am. Come the 12th hole I’m usually looking forward to getting home, hopefully with a full set of golf clubs still intact. The thought of going round again fills me with dread! It is mentally and physically tiring! However, we DO want to raise money for an extremely good cause. We think the best way of doing this would be for people to donate £x per golf ball we lose during the 4 rounds of golf. Obviously it’s in our scoring interests to not lose a single ball, but we assure you that that is not possible given our standard of golf! Each player will also donate £5 for every ball they lose. I (Stu) also pledge to donate £1 for every shot I am over 100 at the end of each round. Any contribution is massively appreciated. Donate today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Donating through these pages is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.
