1 in 2 people in their lifetime will be diagnosed with cancer, and it doesn’t stop there. Cancer affects everyone. Everyone knows someone who has been diagnosed, some battled and beat it, others sadly not. In our house, the 1 in 2 statistic wasn’t quite so kind. Both our mum and dad were diagnosed, and sadly in May last year we lost our dad to his battle. We were so grateful for the support of Macmillan Cancer care and Marie Curie who sensitively helped through a hard time, and know we couldn’t have done anything better for our dad. Our mum is doing well. She has received 1 round of radiotherapy and 2 rounds of chemotherapy over the last year and a half, and is kicking cancers ass as she lives her everyday life. The adverts are right. A person with cancer is still a person. A Mum is still a Mum. A friend is still a friend. We’re so proud of how well our mum is doing and give big thanks to Nottingham City Hospital and the work of Cancer Research UK. We will be racing in mud together on July 14th in honour of all those affected by cancer, and likewise I will be running again the following day in a 10k race.
