Story
Following a routine mammogram in August 2020 my life was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In the past year I have undergone chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and I am currently receiving a preventative chemotherapy treatment to reduce the chance of the cancer returning. I have received excellent care from the medical teams, and I have also been extremely lucky to have had the support and love of family and friends throughout the roller coaster journey of the past 12 months. So far, thankfully, the chemotherapy treatment I am receiving isn’t giving me the harsh side effects I experienced with the previous treatments and I am now feeling ready to ‘give something back‘, I have therefore entered the Cancer Research UK Race for Life 5k challenge which raises funds for life-saving cancer research. I would love to be able to run the whole route and I have started a training plan to improve my fitness, although in reality I don’t think I’ll be beating any world record!
