Story
Amy is my 9-year-old niece, this time last year she was living with her Mummy (Sammy), stepdad Darren and sister Poppy. Sammy was pregnant and they were excitedly awaiting the arrival of their new baby brother. Brandon was born in October 2016. Unfortunately, quite soon after the arrival of Brandon, Sammy’s cancer returned. Sammy had previously fought an incredibly rare form of cancer – parathyroid back in 2014. We thought it’s going to be OK, she’s beaten cancer before, she’s got this. As a family we remained hopeful. Sadly, the cancer had spread, it was different to before. However, did this stop Sammy from giving it her everything to fight this – NO! Darren proposed to Sammy! A wedding on 11-04-17! Unfortunately, Sammy’s health began to deteriorate quite rapidly. There were a few touch and go moments and days before the wedding Sammy was moved to a hospice. They kindly told her that she could get married there. Despite being so acutely unwell Sammy was determined to get to the wedding she had organised. Sammy, true to her word, did exactly that! The wedding day arrived! All 4 Bridesmaids (Amy, Poppy, AJ and Chloe) looked beautiful, they sat at the front with Darren. We watched the beautiful bride walk in. It was an emotional service, everyone felt so honoured as we watched you become Mr and Mrs Polley. Unfortunately, in the days that followed Sammy’s health deteriorated very rapidly. Amy wanted to see her mum again. Amy spent time snuggled up with Sammy, talking to her and giving her lots of kisses. Just before we left Amy said goodbye to her mum – something no 9-year-old should ever have to do. She kissed her & said I love you Mummy. We were told as we pulled off that day Sammy had taken her final breaths with her mum by her side. Sammy wanted to do this race for life. Amy would like to raise as much money as she can to help families affected by cancer. It doesn't matter it is £1, £100 or anything in between - it all helps. Thank-you
