We're raising as much as we can to beat cancer

Story

PLESAE READ AND DIG DEEP YOUR MONEY REALLY DOES HELP It’s been estimated that millions and millions of people in the UK and the whole world have been affected by the word we all dread to hear ‘cancer’. We have all heard people’s personal stories of family members, friends or just people they know that have been affected by cancer and how their lives have changed forever. Some for the good and some for the bad as many peoples lives have been taken away from their families and friends because of this awful disease. We would like to spread awareness by telling people our story and raise money for cancer research as the dreaded word ‘cancer’ has affected our family in more ways than one. In November 2016 our amazing, loving aunt got diagnosed with Cervical Cancer at the young age of 30. Our whole worlds came crashing down, not knowing what was going to happen, how far it was, what was the next step all we knew was that dreaded word was affected our family, our Jemma. She had a full hysterectomy on the 20th December 2016 just 5 days before Christmas Day. She found the strength to get herself up, and get well before Christmas so she could spend it watching her 2 young boys faces of Christmas Day which she was discharged from hospital on the 23rd December. Jemma then received 6 weeks, Monday to Friday worth of radiotherapy. The side affects of this meant she was going to be weak and so on but she remained so strong and after a long, tiring 6 weeks of radiotherapy and MRI, CT and PET scans she got the all clear and was in remission in June 2017. We are so so proud of Jemma and her strength and passion to keeping strong and remaining cancer free forever. She has annual MRI scans and 6 monthly oncologist check ups and 2 years later she is still clear from cancer and living her life to the max with her young children and her family. Unfortunately our lives have also changed massively by that dreaded word ‘cancer’ again as we sadly lost our amazing great Nan in March 2019. Nan was diagnosed with Esophagus Cancer in June 2016. As anyone could imagine this turned our world upside down as Nan was our first immediate family member to be affected by Cancer and it was a lot for everyone to take in and understand. We never really knew what cancer was or what it meant. After Nan’s diagnosis she was refused life saving surgery to remove the tumour as sadly her heart wasn’t strong enough to under go the operations. Sadly this meant her cancer was terminal and we was going to loose her to this awful disease. Nan received 1 week, 5 days of radiotherapy which helped prolong her life but was never going to cure. The side affects made her weak but she fought so strong. Towards the end of 2018 she started deteriorating and got very weak. She struggled to eat which made her even weaker. She was offered the operation to have a stent fitted in December 2018 which she accepted and meant she could enjoy what was her last Christmas Dinner which she was very much looking forward to with her close family around her. Unfortunately as the new year came in Nan got very poorly and sick and was admitted to hospital after various scans and tests we sadly received the news that the cancer had spread to many organs and to her lymph nodes which meant the cancer was going to her brain. After 2 months in her own home surrounded by her loving close family, she sadly passed away on the 8th March 2019. We are all so heartbroken to loose our Nan, a mum, a sister, a great nan. But we know that Nan is not in pain anymore and is watching down on us. We would like to raise awareness and money for cancer research as it has affected our family in more ways than one. This is too our great Nan, our Aunt and all other friends and family who have been affected by this awful disease. Thankyou for reading our story and what it means to us to raise money and awareness for this, for us, for our family and for our Nan who would be so proud.
