Story
In July 2016, after a gruelling six months of treatment for lung cancer, my Mum, Ruth, decided to run the Race for Life. She was so grateful that she had come out of the other side of such a bleak diagnosis and thankful for the help and care she had received. We formed Ruthio's Racers to raise some money and give back in thanks that we still had her. She absolutely loved the day and it was the most amazing achievement for her after everything she went through. A few months after that, we learned that her cancer had returned and had spread to her liver and her eye. Even then she held so much positivity especially because she was given the opportunity to begin a new form of treatment, immunotherapy, which held out great hope of success. Unfortunately, she never got the chance to begin the treatment after her health deteriorated very badly and she passed away in April last year. This year we have reformed Ruthio's Racers in memory of Mum. She would be so proud and I know she is going to be cheering us on on the day. Cancer does not discriminate and is unforgiving. It has taken away our Mum and my children's Nannie Ruth long before she should have left us. Please help us support Cancer Research UK so that they can find even more options to beat this devastating disease.
