We're raising as much as we can to treat and beat cancer!

Story

Over the years I've taken part in Race for Life for a variety of reasons. The first one was all about testing my ability to run at all. Those of you who know me, know that I didn't run unless I was being chased by an angry wasp, or towards a free gin and tonic. However, I surprised myself (and most of my family too). I actually made it round the course without stopping or puking! Then there were races I ran in memory of family members, to honour friends currently giving cancer a good smack in the chops, and some races just for a good excuse to dress head to foot in pink, complete with fairy wings. This year is different! Earlier this year cancer decided to pay my mother a visit. Landing in her left breast, it set up camp and sent out expeditionary forces to create outposts in her lungs, bones and skin. At first it seemed that before she'd had a chance to mount a defence, the battle would not go Mum's way. However, she's nothing if not stubborn... we call in being 'thrawn' in Scotland. She's given all the little buggers a serious talking to. In June we got some amazing news. Recent scans show that the base camp and expeditionary forces are shrinking, with no new sites detected. This is in part, down to the thrawnness of said wee Scottish woman, but also due to the wonderful treatment she's having. It's new and working well. Thanks to the team at the Western General, Edinburgh and the amazing research sponsored by groups like Cancer Research UK, my family and I are able to enjoy having Mum around for much more time than we dared to hope at the start of the year. Now it's over to you... I'm not expecting you to join me and the Redmayne runners (although, if you're near York on 15th September, and fancy a wee trot round the race course, you're more than welcome to join the running team, or support team)... what I'd love you to do is dust off your wallets and sponsor us! Simple as that! Thank you!
