Story
The year kickstarted with a few of the team taking uprunning and some fiercely competitive step competitions, sparking the idea of a physical challenge for the PRS Team. Unfortunately, around the same time, one of our team members, Rebecca, received heartbreaking news about her father's advanced Mesothelioma diagnosis, which was untreatable. The decision to participate in the Cancer Research run was clear –show support for this important cause and to rally behind Rebecca while motivating the team in their health goals for the year. Rebecca has shared a glimpse of her and her father's journey below. Your donations, no matter the amount, would be greatly appreciated. Meet My Dad, Geoff! Dad was going to be 69 this year, after a long hard-working life he finally retired in August 2023 where he expected to enjoy his final chapter with my Mum travelling. Dad started feeling unwell in the Autumn of 2023 which led to a diagnosis of Mesothelioma in December. The cancer was so advanced that treatment wasn’t an option, we were soon facing end of life care. Dad was mainly in hospital during this period where he was kept comfortable for the most part. We were hoping we would see him in a hospice where we could visit more regularly and ensure he had a respectful and dignified time before we had to say goodbye. This was taken away from us, he sadly fell asleep in the morning of Friday 2nd February 2024. Dad was such an amazing man who gave his everything, he certainly deserved more time than he had and we only wish we knew sooner. He was so loved and loved back more. The unfortunate thing about this type of cancer is that until you know you have it unfortunately it is too late. Currently 45 out of 100 people (45%) survive their mesothelioma for 1 year or more after diagnosis, I would like this statistic improved for other family’s yet to face this same outcome. https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/mesothelioma https://www.mesothelioma.uk.com/ Words by Becky Size
