2017 started for us as a family like any other, but just one week into the new year, Tim (Timothy Mullane), our much loved father, grandfather and great grandfather was taken into hospital with a suspected stomach bleed. What followed was to be the most difficult four weeks of our lives. We were to find out very quickly that the stomach bleed was in fact bowel cancer and emergency surgery was required. Tim underwent his surgery the very next day after being admitted to hospital and did amazingly well through the surgery - things were looking up. However, a week later and complications started to arise. Further bowel surgery was required to rectify a problem, and Tim started to develop a chest infection. We then found out the cancer had spread, and coupled with what turned out to be 'Broncho-pneumonia' our beloved Tim could fight no more and peacefully in his sleep on the 1st Feb 2017 he closed his eyes for the final time and left us to join the angels above. Throughout his time in hospital Tim put up a very brave fight and was completely dignified until the very end - he made us all so, so proud of how he dealt with his illness. This was an awful lot for us to comprehend as a family, we were and still are devastated by the turn of events. We have the most fabulous memories of Tim and he will be forever in our hearts. Whilst we still hurt, we want to do something positive in Tim's memory and that is why as a team we have come together to do the 'Race for Life' and raise much needed money for Cancer Research so that, hopefully in time, no one will need suffer at the hands of this cruel disease that devastates lives and families.
