Story
We are researchers from Cancer Research UK's Drug Discovery Centre at Newcastle University, a core component of Cancer Research Horizons, CRUKs new therapeutic innovation engine. As a team of medicinal chemists, chemical biologists, cancer bioscientists, pharmacologists and structural biologists, we are working to discover new novel treatments for poorly treated cancers. Our past research has delivered four new medicines that are currently in clinical use to treat cancer patients and our current work is focussed on new molecular treatments for precision oncology, targeting cancers that are resistant to current therapies. We hope that this will lead in the future to both more effective and kinder medicines. Our research is critically dependent on the funding we receive from CRUK, which we leverage very effectively via additional money from the University and our industrial collaborations, most notably a strategic alliance with Astex Pharmaceuticals. None of this would be possible without the generous donations people make to CRUK. We are proud to do our own bit towards fundraising as well. This year we are raising money through a variety of activities including pub quizzes, bake sales and running the Race for Life and the Great North Run. Hopefully the running will burn off the cake. We greatly appreciate your donations. Cancer is happening right now, which is why we're fundraising right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Donate today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Donating through these pages is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.
