Story
We are researchers from Cancer Research UK's Drug Discovery Unit based at Newcastle University. As a team of medicinal chemists, cancer bioscientists, pharmacologists and structural biologists, we are working to develop new novel treatments for cancers that are currently poorly treated. Our past research has delivered four new medicines that are currently in clinical use to treat cancer patients and our current work is focussed on new molecular treatments for precision oncology targeting cancers that are resistant to current therapies. We hope that this will lead in the future to both more effective and kinder medicines. Our research is critically dependent on the funding we receive from CRUK, which we leverage very effectively via additional money from the University and our industrial collaborations, most notably a strategic alliance with Astex Pharmaceuticals. None of this would be possible without the generous donations people make to CRUK. We are proud to do our own bit towards fundraising as well. Oh, and we also really like running, well some of us do, we'll see how many of us still do in the last mile along the seafront to South Shields. Please give generously.
