We're raising as much as we can to beat cancer

Story

I haven’t told a lot of people about this as I am a relatively private person who doesn’t like to heap my issues on to other people but I have been thinking that if I am to make it through the next few months with an okay mental state, then I’m going to have to lean on a few more people than I already am. In October 2016, my step-mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and in October last year, my mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. At first, I didn’t believe it. I thought it was a joke and that my mum was going to turn around and say how she doesn’t actually have it, but she never did. It just highlighted how unfair the world is and how my minuscule problems, that I was complaining to my mum about the hours before she told me, were just blimps in my life that I’d get over the following day. I don’t have the words to describe how I felt and it’s still, to this day, incredibly hard to comprehend. Me being me, I buried myself in school work. I went into school the following day and smiled; if anyone asked why I was so quiet I’d shrug it off. However, over the Christmas holidays, I came to realise just how rocky the next few months will be. I’m in year 11 so I will be sitting my GCSE exams this May and June. At the same time, my mum will be going through chemotherapy and probably the worst few months of her life. I wanted to set a date that we can both look forward to, something that we can set our minds to do, to have fun and to enjoy ourselves. That is why we are doing the Race for Life on the 7th of July in Bath. I will be running it with some friends to raise money for Cancer Research UK. All I can ask from anyone is to please donate and support us through this time. My mum is one of the strongest and most empathetic women I know and I hope that you will support us with anything you can. Thank you for all of your support
