We're raising as much as we can to beat cancer

Story

Every day in the UK and all over the world, people are being diagnosed with Cancer. It is a vile illness that affects every single person in their lifetime. Until this year, I counted myself blessed to have had no immediate family or close friends suffer from cancer. However, this year alone we have lost my husband’s beautiful Khala (auntie) and my beloved Granddad Gordon is currently suffering through the final stages of Liver Cancer. It has been perhaps one of the hardest things I have ever had to witness; watching such strong, independent, caring, loving people deteriorate so rapidly. Every single day, I am grateful that my Granddad is still here with us and I cherish every single moment I can have with him as I know it’s limited. Granddad and also Dan’s Khala are not the only people we’ve known to fall ill with Cancer, but it’s certainly been very close to home. My heart breaks for anyone else who’s had to suffer through it themselves, or has had to witness a loved one suffer. Sapphire’s Uncle Tommy was taken tragically soon at the age of 12 and whilst his memory lives on in us all, I just wish something could’ve been done far sooner so that he’d have been able to witness our ridiculous shenanigans over the past 16 years. As well as this, I have worked in the healthcare industry and seen first hand just how many people are affected by Cancer every day; it never gets easier to deal with. I commend our healthcare specialists who dedicate their entire careers to saving lives and feel at a complete loss due to the fact there's nothing we can do personally to help, hence why we're going to push ourselves HARD to cross that 10k finish line. (we are not runners... nay, we are barely even walkers). I want to raise money for Cancer Research in the hopes that we can help fund better diagnostic tests that are able to detect difficult cancers much earlier, so more treatment options are available and thus, hopefully more lives can be saved. I hate the fact that this is ‘just part of life’ that we all have to deal with. It’s tragic, and it’s painful. No body should have to witness their loved ones struggle so severely. And even worse, nobody should have to go through this struggle themselves. This 10k is for you Granddord. - Meg x Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work.
