August 2006 was when our lives changed forever. Our beautiful, blue eyed, blonde haired little girl was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. No warning, just one day in September 2005 she became unwell and five days later she was blue lighted to St. George’s Hospital for an emergency operation. From September 2005 to June 2006 we spent our days going from one hospital to another, from one course of treatment to another. Throughout all the chemotherapy and operations we all fought against this disease and always looked to the future. However, August bank holiday 2006 Lucy became ill again and, after a scan at St. Georges, the consultant, who came from the Royal Marsden Hospital, held our hand and explained the tumour had returned and there was nothing more they could do. Five days later, Lucy, aged 2 years 10 months, passed away in our arms. Every day is a challenge without her. We mourn the loss of our daughter and we mourn the loss of her future. However, we remember that she never gave up. From the endless chemotherapy, the operations, the times she felt so sick, she was still the little girl who loved to play and because of this we never gave up either. Lucy would be 16 this year and together with her sisters, who she never knew, and friends Emma and Cecilia, Alison and Millie we will join Race for Life and take every step in her memory.
