In 2020 my sister Becky Walked All Over Cancer and to celebrate her kicking its ass we have decided to walk 10,000 steps a day throughout March to raise money to help beat cancer. Help us Walk All Over Cancer and fund life-saving research by making a donation to our page. In March 2020 Becky was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, an uncommon breast cancer that accounts for around 15% of all breast cancers. We are a close-knit family and we were all devastated by the news. We wallowed in our local Italian restaurant and comfort ate whilst we tried to be positive and proactively organised the logistics of hospital appointments and childcare. A whirlwind of tests and hospital appointments ensued over a very short time and we all agree that the NHS were amazing – the first COVID lockdown was happening and luckily nothing was delayed. Going through cancer treatment is hard at any time but going through it whilst the country is in lockdown meant that appointments had to be attended alone without the support of loved ones who instead spent hours in hospital car parks. Fast forward to New Year’s Eve 2020; there’s been chemo, 2 operations, a scary hospitalisation due to infection and a 40th birthday celebration that was frankly a bit naff (thanks cancer and COVID!). Becky is ending the year with her final radiotherapy session and the cancer is gone! My sister’s, Becky and Leanne, and myself are all going to be taking on the Walk All Over Cancer challenge. As a family we’re so grateful to all the research that has already happened that allowed Becky to beat cancer. We’d like to give back so we have decided to Walk All Over Cancer to help fund the research that will allow other families to have the same positive outcome that we had in the future.
