Story
On the 4th January this year I was told the devastating news that I had kidney cancer. If I’m honest, My wife and 3 children were the first thing that entered my thoughts and how long I would have left to be with them. My family and I had to wait agonisingly for results of further scans and tests in the proceeding weeks to see if the cancer had spread elsewhere On the 10thMarch I was in the operating theatre having the affected kidney removed entirely from my body, weeks later it was confirmed that the cancer hadn’t spread and in truth I owe my life to the incredible health service we have, the speed in which every department dealt with the situation and the incredible work Cancer research are doing to beat the disease. Unfortunately, cancer affects more people than ever before and many of us will have similar stories of loved ones that have been affected by cancer, the good news is that the survival rate is higher than ever before, in the 43 years I’ve been alive the survival rate has nearly doubled and we need to continue helping cancer research to bring us closer to beating it. Cancer doesn’t care if your 3, 43 or 83. It’s a manipulative, despicable disease that we must continue to fight.
