Story
A few weeks after I was diagnosed with breast cancer last June, my worst nightmare happened. My beautiful daughter Fern, 34, and mum of three wonderful children, was also diagnosed. After the darkest two weeks of all our lives waiting for her scan results, we had the news that her cancer was stage 3 - not stage 4 as we had so desperately feared. It was treatable, thank God. The treatments Fern and I have had have been really tough, and they will continue for some time yet. But we are so, so lucky they are there; without them, life would be pretty unthinkable. We didn’t think breast cancer happened to families like ours, but it does. 1 in 7 women in their lifetime (and even a few men) will get breast cancer, many of them very young, like my lovely Fern. My very special friends, Jules, Jannine and Nina, Teresa, Naomi, my son Luke, my sister Carole and I are joining Cancer Research UK’s Shine Night Walk in London, on 23rd September, walking together through the night to celebrate life, and raise both awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Please support us to continue to help fund the research that gives us hope for the future … and for the futures of all our daughters and granddaughters. And please, please, find a good guide, check your chest properly every month, and remind everyone you love - regardless of their age - or gender -to do the same 😊
