Dawn Ellen Carey A wife, mother, nanny, Great nanny, sister, best friend.... Who sadly passed away on the 25th of October 2019 Dawn was diagnosed with Extramammary Paget disease in the July of 2019. It is an un-curable, slow growing cancer that had been missed diagnosed for so many years. By the time Dawn had received this devastating news it had spread to her lungs, liver and womb. Dawn was 84 years of age and had had enough of being in and out of hospital, being pulled apart and just wanted to be left alone. As Dawn had made that decision she decided she didn't want any further tests to find out how much it had spread or what her life expectancy was. She knew she just wanted to go home and live out the rest of her days with her family. Extramammary Paget disease is a very rare form of cancer. The doctors who established she had the disease had only ever heard of it and had never seen it in person. The doctors asked Dawn if they could use her as a case study but Dawn said no, she didn't want to be pulled about. She had had enough. Dawn asked if she could donate her body after she had passed to medical science but as it was cancer she was not allowed. We promised Dawn we would raise awareness for this horrible diease. We believe so many people have been miss diagnosed over the years. Even if we help just one person from being miss diagnosed, Dawn would be so happy. There is very little research into Extramammary Paget Diease and only 800 people in the world have been diagnosed with it. There is no known charity for Extramammary Paget Disease. So Tony and Sam have decided to do a 5k run on the 12th September at Lincolnshire show ground. Race for Life raise money for all 200 different types of cancer and one of them is the British Skin foundation. We know this to be the only charity who have dealt with this disease.
