We're raising as much as we can to beat cancer

Story

Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. I Hannah (grand daughter) am participating in this race for my grandmother who has beat cancer not once but twice. I remember the day i went to the hospital with my grandma and they told us the results, my heart broke, but i knew I needed to be strong for her. It was a hard few months. When my grandma was undergoing chemotherapy treatment I cannot explain how hard this was for her, from losing her hair, appetite, continuous vomiting, brittle nails, lack of energy and feeling like she wasn’t going to survive. She was always going in hospital with infections. I would sleep in waiting rooms so she wasn’t alone as she hated hospitals. After finishing her treatment, chemo and radiotherapy she eventually got the all clear and we was so grateful! 5 years went by and she found another lump, I took her to the doctors who said it’s breast tissue, but I was adamant I wanted a second opinion. The appointment came through, had a biopsy done. This was around the time my great grandmother passed. We went to see my great grandmother at the mortuary and also had an appointment for the results of the biopsy. Myself, my grandma and my mom went to the appointment after seeing my late great grandmother thinking this has to be good news, cant be any bad news! We got there, the doctor came in and I just cried. I saw the doctors face and I just knew. My grandma was in bits although she didn’t understand what he was saying she knew. My mon then explained what the doctor was saying. She was then diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. There was no stage but had 50/50 chance of surviving this. My grandma had to undergo surgery, a mastectomy. My grandma become so head strong that she wasn’t going to let cancer beat her again! Surgery went well and then she was having very strong chemo. As my grandma was so positive and head strong, other than loss of hair she had no other symptoms considering the treatment was so strong. Even the doctors were amazed! I can now sit here and say she in the all clear and has beaten cancer twice! From my grandma changing her mindset, her thought process and thinking positive about the situation and not negative, made her get through this like a champion! Lets beat this together!
