Our Directors Story In 2019 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Aggressive Breast Cancer which had also spread to another part of my body. It’s crazy to think your whole life can change in five minutes - not just my life but the lives of my children, family and friends. My first thoughts were fear and a feeling of helplessness – you really are at the hands of the amazing nurses and doctors who make it their mission in life to cure this terrible disease. The fear was soon replaced by an overwhelming feeling of “fight”, I was too young to die, I was too young to leave my children, grandchildren and husband and I wanted to be here – living! I feel myself very lucky to be treated by Burton Hospital who performed surgery within 10 days of my very first appointment. After rounds of chemotherapy, daily trips to Derby Hospital for Radiotherapy and now Immunotherapy every three weeks, (all coupled with many hiccups including hospital stays, additional treatment and the side effects from the Chemo), I am delighted that the treatment ends during March! During this time my work has been one of my saviours, its sounds crazy but it’s given me something to focus on. When at work I’m not Fiona with Cancer, I’m just Fiona the Recruiter! I have an amazing team – who you will see are joining me on this challenge, who have all paid a part in my road to recovery. As a Team we have decided that this walk is a great way to celebrate the end of my treatment whilst raising some money for this incredible cause that will enable more people to move forward with their lives and “walk all over cancer”. My life will never be the same! That said, I feel I have grown as a person, I appreciate those that have supported me on this journey, and I feel I’m a better person (I hope lol)! I haven’t shared my story with very many people in the last two year but feel strongly enough about this cause now to share. Please help fight cancer by donating – small or large anything will help.
