Thank you for visiting our Fundraising Page (and hopefully sponsoring our challenge)! We are two sisters who have lost too many loved ones to Cancer and feel we should set ourselves a challenge while we are still (fairly) fit and able! Our family, like nearly everyone’s has been affected by Cancer and we have lost love ones to this terrible disease. Imagine there was a cure? Just take 30 seconds and imagine that! It’s possible it really is but it’s not going to be easy or cheap to achieve. Research into a cure for the 200 types of Cancer costs money :(. Cancer Research though do not just fund that vital research into finding a cure. Early diagnosis and effective treatment has helped double the survival rate in the UK over the last 40 years thanks to the work of Cancer Research. In their own words.... “We want survival in the UK to be among the best in the world. We’re focusing our efforts in four key areas – working to help prevent cancer, diagnose it earlier, develop new treatments and optimise current treatments by personalising them and making them even more effective”. About Us: Abigail I'm 42 and my BMI is higher than it should be! I enjoy walking with my dog but we don’t break records! While i (almost) still can I will live life to the full and try and save the world (and a lot of animals)! I'm looking forward to walking this half marathon with my sister and seeing the sights of London on a Saturday Night while raising money and awareness for a good cause! Rebecca I’m 48 and have been Type 1 diabetic since 13 years old. I have never been one for strenuous exercise but in the last two years I managed to get from ‘Couch to 5k’. It’s made me healthier and motivated me to set more fitness goals! Before this recent exercise boost I didn’t want to walk far, let alone run! I’ve experienced some life threatening moments as a result of my diabetes but I’m determined to do all I can to ease into my 50’s as a healthy and fit person. I need a challenge to keep up the momentum and the Shine Walk is just that.
