Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life. After recently being told my grandad has been diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, I have decided to run the 10k race in order to raise money for research which can save lives. Cancer is not an unknown thing to me and my family, after my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago she was fortunately able to pull through and I am eternally grateful to still have her by my side today, although some are not so lucky. My other grandad also sadly passed away a few years ago from a long battle with cancer; with him living so far away I only got to see him once in my lifetime and was not able to share the memories and achievements I have accomplished today. I know people that have also suffered a loss of their loved ones from this awful disease so by running the race for life I am hoping to contribute to a great cause, and one day we will beat cancer. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
