Story
Cancer is something that we hear about all of the time, through people's life stories, TV, radio etc, but until it happens to someone close to you, it's hard to comprehend the impact it truly has. Only a few days ago, we were hit the devastating news that my brother Andrew, has Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. He's 44 years old. This has hit us like a ton of bricks. He has now begun his gruelling journey of intense chemotherapy, but we're all staying positive, including Andrew! 💪💪 We all feel completely helpless at the moment, and the fact he is doing this on his own in hospital breaks our hearts. So I thought, what could we do to show him that we're all rooting for him? 🤔 Well he knows that most of us involved in this are unfit, lazy and can't run for toffee, so maybe we could do the 5k Race for Life. But then I thought, that's no where near any resemblance of the challenges that he's facing, so we need to up the challenge for us, hence the 10k. To some, this may not sound a lot, but to us it's like a marathon! I'm sure he'll find just the thought of it highly amusing too! We've only 6 weeks to train, and to get as many sponsors as we can to raise money for such a vital cause. Everyone running in this team has been touched by cancer at some point in their life, whether this is personal or through family and/or friends. It is truly devastating and it is relentless. 1 in 2 of us will develop some form of cancer during our lifetime. There are more than 200 different types of cancer, each diagnosed and treated in a particular way. This past year proves more than ever, the value of science and medical research.
