Cancer is happening right now, and 1 in 2 of us will be affected by this at some time in our lives. Cancer Research UK's vision is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Cancer outcomes have doubled over the last 40 years and our ambition is to see 3 in 4 people surviving cancer for 10 years or more by 2034. As a group of GP's across the UK, we work with Cancer Research to help support, and promote, the earlier diagnosis of cancer, as earlier diagnosis usually means better outcomes. During the difficult pandemic we currently find ourselves in we know that people who may have potential worrying symptoms aren't seeing their GP to discuss these further. But cancer doesn't go away, even during COVID-19. We are therefore aiming to promote the need at this time to see your GP if you have any concerns regarding your health - this could be blood in your poo, wee or on coughing, a new lump or bump, a new pain that wasn't there before, you've lost weight, or something just doesn't feel right- please see your GP. They are open to speak with you to discuss your concerns now, and if further investigations or referrals are needed these will be done in a safe way to reduce the risk of infection. Do not wait until COVID-19 is over, contact them now. Our aim during the month of July is to try and raise much needed funds so that the fight against cancer can be maintained. As a collective of CRUK GP's and associates across the UK, we aim to come together virtually to walk, run, cycle, swim or crawl as many 5k's as we can to see how far it would take us if we started in London. Will we make it to Northampton, Newcastle or even New York! All of us are setting our own challenges, some are doing it daily, some weekly, monthly or all at once, but all our efforts count as one team- Cancer Research UK GP's 5K around the UK!
