Story

In memory of Oscar Pisano (my godson), 21st October 2004 - 16th March 2014 5 years ago this September (2012) I completed the Shine Night Walk, this is a full marathon where we walk 26.5 miles through the streets of London during the night. I swore then that I would never do it again as it was the most enduring of all the challenges that I have taken on over the years. 5 years ago I did it for a special little boy who has since left us and on the 23rd September 2017 I will walk again for Oscar but this time alongside his Mum. Oscar Pisano was diagnosed in June 2012 with Juvenile Myelomocytic Leukaemia. From June to September 2012 Oscar received regular chemotherapy for symptom control but his condition could not be cured without a bone marrow transplant. In September a good match was found in Germany but unfortunately the transplant could not go ahead as upon further testing it was found that Oscar had a very poor lung function. His consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital said they had only ever treated someone for 6 months without a Bone Marrow Transplant. Oscar's chemotherapy was administered monthly for a week at a time up at Great Ormond Street. Oscar defied everyone and fought on for 18 months and during that time he did some amazing things, met some amazing people and is now known by Doctors all over the world. Oscar also remained blood and platelet transfusion dependent and full supportive care until the 16th March 2014....This was the day that Oscar changed the lives of those he touched forever – he passed away peacefully in the arms of his very loving Mum and Dad. Oscar was 9 years old. That day a new star entered the night sky, a new angel started to watch over us. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I am fundraising for Cancer Research UK. Donate today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Donating through these pages is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.
