We have always been a close and loving family, who throughout the years have been supportive, caring and best friends to each other. The cruel fact of life is that the more deeply you love and cherish your family unit, the more heartbroken you are when that unit is broken. We sadly lost our father to bowel cancer in 2005 after a long and courageous battle, which was very hard to take. The only solace we took was that he wasn’t suffering any more. Our tight family unit then became 3. Then from almost nowhere, we lost our mother to an unspecified cancer (suspected blood) in 2018 - 3 weeks or so after she was admitted to hospital with severe lower back pain. The thought of it is still raw and our pain is still fresh. We are haunted by the event and how quickly it happened. But now we face a new challenge, with the recent and devastating news that my twin brother has been diagnosed with non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. However, this time we are fighting back, prepared and determined. Now more than ever, we need to do our bit and help bring an end to the fear and the suffering caused by this dreadful disease. Because cancer doesn’t just affect the individual whose life is turned upside down, it affects family, friends and loved ones too.
