Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. In March 2020, Nichola, our niece and cousin aged 32, was diagnosed with breast cancer whilst being 7 months pregnant. A week later, whilst still in utter disbelief about the diagnosis, the whole country went into lockdown. Nichola had to be induced two weeks later giving birth to a beautiful, healthy baby boy, called Oscar. Four weeks after Oscar’s arrival, Nichola was back at hospital having surgery to remove the tumour and, in the months following this, she went through several weeks and months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Due to being in lockdown, Nichola had to go to the hospital appointments alone, which must have been a very scary experience. As well as attending the appointments alone, Nichola was unable to receive all the usual support a new parent would receive from family and friends due to the pandemic. We can not begin to imagine how hard and daunting this must have been for her. Fortunately, Nichola had the incredible and loving support from her husband, Greg, who has been brilliant throughout. We are extremely proud of Nichola and everything she has been through. She has been courageous and remained positive throughout, all whilst being an incredible mother to Oscar. We are in awe of what she has been through and how she has managed to cope. To have a newborn baby or to have cancer during a pandemic is unimaginable, but to experience all these factors simultaneously is heartbreaking beyond belief.
