Story
In April 2000 after years of treatment and fighting my grandad lost his fight to bowel cancer. Since this my mam and her cousins have had regular checks incase this gene ran in the family, in 2017 she received a letter saying there was a new genetic test which would be able to tell her if she carried this gene, meaning theses checks wouldn’t be needed. The results came back and she doesn’t carry this gene meaning myself and my sister would also not be a carrier. After a year we received the devastating news that my mam had been diagnosed with grade 3 triple negative breast cancer, this is when our lives were turned upside down. What seemed like thousands of hospital appointments, several blood tests, two lumpectomies, one mastectomy, and six rounds of chemotherapy later, she won her fight on 22nd of May 2019. Since this my grandad has also been diagnosed with a non aggressive bladder cancer which he is still fighting. I myself cannot thank all the money, time and research that has gone into fighting this battle, and how all these new tests and treatments help us win and defeat this disease once and for all 💕💕 Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work.
