In March 2017, we lost a much loved, inspirational and adored man: a father to 4, a Papa to 9, a great grand Papa to now 4, an uncle, a brother and a friend to many. Diagnosed in 2012 he battled bravely throughout and never let it beat his ability to continue his life, affect his relationships or knock his strength. Our dad/Papa not once complained about his illness and beat the odds. Our family and his friends owe a great deal to him for being the man we all came to love and know. We (a Mum and her 3 girls) are racing for Papa and the people that are diagnosed every minute of every day. Cancer doesn’t just affect the diagnosed person but the families as well. Papa may have lost his battle but we are left with a hole in our hearts that cannot be filled. Although we cannot bring him back, we can all do a little something in the plight to beat cancer with knowledge and research in the hope for a cure. Unfortunately Papa/Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, with no operation possible. A non-smoker his whole life, an honest working man who served our police force, volunteered and attended weekly at local churches, played the organ/piano for children’s pantomimes, looked after his town, married his childhood sweetheart and was handed his due date far too soon for the life he chose. Cancer has no emotion, it cares for no one and takes our loved ones regardless of the loss it receives.
