Story
As most of you will know, 2019 was a very difficult year for our family. Howard, Freds' beloved father, died of brain cancer and Annie was treated for early breast cancer. Brain cancer has been relatively little researched and it shows. Howard had only a year disease free. The illness itself inevitably takes away much that makes a person who they are. Despite remaining alive to music, even in the last few weeks of his life, his capacity to make music was horribly affected by the illness. Annie has been luckier. Breast Cancer research has been well funded and this too shows. The prognosis for many cases is good and very different from when Annie started out in medicine. So, this fundraising effort recognises that Cancer Research has been, for some cancers very successful. In a way, it is a thank you to Cancer Research and all those who they support, whose hard work pays off. But it is also an effort to raise funds that we hope will go to research into relatively neglected cancers which still substantially shorten the lives of people we love. We are both running the Cambridge half marathon on March 8th. It is 21.08km, each. While this is relatively speaking, a walk in the park for Freds, he is going to make it really hard by going as fast as possible. Annie will be jolly pleased to finish before the race organisers pack up and go home. So please think about the different kinds of hell we are putting ourselves through and donate as enthusiastically as we are running! Thank you all very much. PS Donating through these pages is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.
