Story
On 22nd September my three children and I will be walking the 26 mile Shine Walk in London, through the night, with our specific cancer charity being Breast Cancer Now.. Ten years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and following surgery, a mastectomy, and years of treatment, was given the all clear five years ago. Five years on, it returned, and I’m now recovering from surgery again. My children are my life, and have proved just how incredible they are over the last few months, and how they have pulled together to support me. They have been so strong, so stoic, so brave in coping with this, and they have lived with the worry of this twice now. All it has done is make us stronger as a family. I am truly privileged to be their mother. In so many ways it is worse for those you love, as they are helpless to do anything. But the bond we have as a family is ferociously strong, and we have all learnt the real values in life. I have been lucky, but many other women haven’t. Or their families. It rips families apart and destroys lives. Cancer, in whatever guise, is vicious,it hits mercilessly, and relentlessly. Having witnessed other women with families fighting, and in some cases, not making it through, I have seen the destruction that it wreaks on children in particular. Sam, Jamie, Ellie and I are committed to doing whatever we can to help raise funds to find cures for this vile and evil disease. We want to do whatever we can to help research towards the targeting of treatment for this cancer, to prevent mothers dying, and to protect my daughter's generation from this disease. We had already planned to do this walk, as a family, before my cancer returned, but after the last few months, we have a real reason to make it bigger, get more people involved, and raise more money. It won't be easy for me, but WE WILL DO THIS. We walk together, we fight together. We will beat this. Join us. FEAR IS THE CANCER, WE FIGHT WE WIN
