Story
We are a group of nurses/friends that are all working within oncology ( and one of our Mum's)that are taking part the shine walk this year as we can see the impact of cancer has on a daily basis. We were originally going to take part in the night shine walk in Cardiff in October but due to the current situation with Covid this has sadly been cancelled, we are now going to take the part in walk our way and hopefully cover a Marathon’s ( 26 miles )distance over 2 days In Cardiff on the 26th of September. This is also close to our hearts this year as a few of us having personal experience with loved ones dealing with the disease in the last year, with a stepmum with pancreatic cancer, her husband having reoccurrence of bladder cancer and a much loved aunty/sister who is putting up a very brave fight with brain cancer..My daughter Lucy is taking part in a shorter walk for her Grandparents nearer by with the lovely Dawn at the same time..she was a big part of the motivation behind this.Looking forward we hope that cancer research can help prevent future families having to go through these horrible journeys. On a happy note we wanted to mention (Thanks for those who supported the sarcoma steamies last year in a cruk walk)Aidan a 6 year little boy who a year ago was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma after arduous rounds of chemotherapy, proton therapy and mixed in with a tremendous amount of courage from both himself and his family he is a happy bouncing boy ready to go back to school ( when Covid allows ). His mum Angela can’t join us this year but was happy for us to share his story! So thats our story, with our chosen cancer sites that are of Brain cancer ,pancreatic cancer and sarcoma. We realise cancer is a much bigger picture that sadly comes in many shapes and sizes so please sponsor us to help keep fighting the fight. 3 pints and a 1/3 :-) x
